Ertugrul was a valiant warrior and the head of the Kayi Clan of Oghuz Turks in the history of the Turkish Muslims. He was a wise man, a devout believer, and a great war strategist who had trouble with the Byzantines and the Mongols. He entered the scene to aid Sejuks of Rum and his army of 400 horsemen. His valour and effective leadership laid the groundwork for the powerful Ottoman Empire that was established by Osman, the son of Ertugrul Ghazi.

- ERTUGRUL GHAZI FULL NAME
Ertugrul is frequently referred to as a Ghazi, a valiant champion warrior for Islam. Bin Suleman Shah is Ertugrul Ghazi’s full name; he is also known as Ertugrul bin Gunduz Alp.
Fun fact: Osman I, the ruler of the mighty Ottoman Empire, was Ertugrul’s youngest son. His oldest son was Gunduz.

Turkey is the location of the Muslim warrior’s tomb from Turkish Islamic history. Sultan Abdul Hamid II erected the existing tomb in the late 19th century. To honour the early Osman, the town of Sogut holds an annual festival.
