A 26-year-old Chinese programmer who had gone to get a neck massage due to neck pain suffered a stroke.
Xiao Zhang, an IT professional from Changsha, Henan Province, China, often suffered from neck pain due to spending long hours at his desk.
After learning that traditional massage could help relieve neck pain, he decided to go to a local massage parlor.
Everything was going great after the massage began, but then the man felt a sharp pain in his neck due to the massage therapist’s hands pressing too hard, which was followed by a headache.
The man didn’t think much of the symptoms, but the next morning he woke up with numbness and weakness on the left side of his body, as well as slurred speech.
Frightened, the 26-year-old rushed to the local Second People’s Hospital, where he was diagnosed with a secondary cerebral infarction.
Fortunately, the young man reached the hospital early, which saved him from permanent damage.
