Indian captain Rohit Sharma’s name included for important award

A recent report has suggested that a stand at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium may be named after Indian captain Rohit Sharma.

According to details, Rohit Sharma’s name will be discussed in the MCA’s Apex Council meeting on April 15, but he will be competing with other big names from Mumbai.

According to the report, the MCA has received requests and suggestions from its club members to name stands after former presidents Sharad Pawar, late Vilasrao Deshmukh, late Indian captain Ajit Wadekar, late Aknath Solkar, late Dilip Sardesai, late Padmakar, former Indian captain Diana Edulji and current Indian team captain Rohit Sharma or to name places outside the stadium after them.

MCA President Ajinkya Naik said that some suggestions have been made by the members but the final decision will be taken by the general body members of the Mumbai Cricket Association.

It is worth noting that under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, India has won two ICC titles (T20 World Cup in 2024 and Champions Trophy in 2025) in the last nine months. This is a feat that no Mumbai player has been able to achieve as a captain.
