Users under 16 will no longer be able to use the live streaming feature on Instagram after a parental control update introduced by technology company Meta.
Meta said that Instagram users under 16 will need parental permission to turn off a feature that automatically blurs out suspicious images in Direct Messages.
The updates are part of an expansion of the social media platform’s Teen Account system, which was introduced last September (and any user under 16 was added to a Teen Account by default), which automatically makes an account private, reduces the convenience of messaging and puts the user in the strictest category in Meta’s sensitive content settings.
Meta said the company is introducing Teen Accounts for both Facebook and Facebook Messenger.
According to the company, nearly 54 million teen users globally have been moved to Teen Accounts since September.
